We were scheduled for a grooming appointment today, but after spending an hour driving back and forth, it didn't even happen. As it turns out, they require a canine influenza vaccine, which our dog doesn't have. Despite having a copy of all our vaccinations and our DocuPet license, nobody bothered to warn us beforehand that this specific vaccine was mandatory. Instead, they offered to give the shot right then and there on the spot, claiming we could proceed with the grooming immediately after. It honestly felt like a cheap cash grab just to get us to pay for the vaccine. If they had a copy of our vaccination history on file, why did nobody check it and warn us in advance so we wouldn't waste our time driving there?

Absolutely horrible experience with Hockessin Animal Hospital. In my opinion, this place took advantage of elderly clients and caused unnecessary emotional trauma to our family. My 84-year-old in-laws trusted them with their Pomeranian, and instead of careful, responsible veterinary care, they were given an extreme diagnosis and told the dog had only six months to live. You can imagine what that does to people in their 80s. They were devastated and have been traumatized ever since. What makes this worse is that after getting a second opinion, the situation was nowhere near as severe as we were told. Yet at Hockessin Animal Hospital they had no problem prescribing multiple medications and presenting the situation as if the outcome was certain. No one can predict exactly how long a dog has left, and it is incredibly irresponsible to speak with that level of certainty, especially to elderly pet owners who trust you completely. It felt like they were playing God instead of practicing careful medicine. Fear-based recommendations, unnecessary prescriptions, and zero sensitivity to the emotional impact of what they were saying. Veterinarians should help families make informed decisions, not scare them into thinking their pet is about to die without clear evidence. The stress this caused our family cannot be undone. We deeply regret trusting this clinic and would strongly recommend getting a second opinion anywhere else before agreeing to treatment here.

We have a family of 3 fur babies and we’ve been taking them here since we brought them home (starting 3 years ago). Dr Anthony is hands down the best, especially with our cats. We’ve had no bad experience even visiting other locations associated with this practice. All of the techs are fabulous and clearly love their job and it shows in the care they give the pets. I appreciate how all staff and drs listen and don’t make me feel bad when I’m an anxious pet parent.

I can’t say enough about Dr.Anthony, he’s extremely knowledgeable, compassionate and a friend of mine for over 20 years. Dr. Anthony has helped me through some very difficult times. I feel grateful and blessed to have Dr. Anthony as my dog’s vet. Thank you, Dorothy McKelvey
